Who can apply the program?

Street Shepherds Africa accepts volunteers from all professions and expatriate at all of its projects. Volunteers may plan activities for/with the children, build a fence, paint a room, help with teaching, conduct a fund-raiser, help write documentation or any number of other activities depending on the volunteer’s skill set and interests.

Our projects are small and only accommodate a few volunteers each; acceptance is based on available space. Applications are on a rolling basis: there are no dates or deadlines for applying. Projects are ongoing and volunteers are always needed. Karibu Sana!!

Volunteering and its benefits

Volunteering is among the most rewarding life experiences as one gets to make a difference in other people’s lives and in the community, become connected to others. Volunteers have a great impact on their community, often uniting the community as one. Volunteering also allows people to interact more, meet new people, and expand their network and meet people who share same interests, practice while developing social skills more by constantly being exposed to other people.

Volunteering increases your self-confidence, self-esteem, and even develop a more positive outlook on life, with advancement of your career through experience and development of skills, develop and practice skills often utilized in the workplace such as planning projects, problem solving, critical thinking, time management, organization, communication, and teamwork and above all provides one with a sense of purpose.

Street Shepherds Africa volunteer programs are practical learning experiences that vary in length. We encourage volunteers to stay for at least three weeks, but volunteers are welcome to sign up for any length of time. Long-term stays of over six months are welcome and negotiable.

Whilst specific job roles and activities are flexible, according to your talents and preferences and as per Street Shepherds Africa’s needs, volunteers may often adopt one of the following job roles during their stay with us:

Positions are of a “Paying Volunteer” nature; fees are determined by the length of the stay. The program fee covers

Airport/bus stand transfers upon arrival in and departure from Arusha
Orientation to Arusha town/Moshi town
Town tour and small hikes
Accommodation with a local host family or in hostel with other volunteers.
Three meals a day (breakfast and dinner with the host family; lunch at the project site)
Support in case of illness or emergency
